Volunteer Literacy Program

Volunteers, a gift to the community
A Volunteer Literacy Tutor is a member of the community who gives time and skills to help others learn.

  • Tutors work with in English as a Second Language classes to help immigrants learn English.
  • Tutors work in Basic Education classes to help people learn reading, writing, math, and computer skills.
  • Tutors work in GED preparation classes to help people prepare for the GED test.

CentiYOU can be a literacy volunteer

  • All volunteers receive training through the Literacy Program
  • Tutors work at least 1-2 hours at least once a week
  • Tutors commit to work at least one college quarter
  • Tutors are patient and accepting
  • Tutors have good skills in the areas they are helping
  • Tutors report to the Tutor Coordinator on a regular basis
