The Partnership for Rural Improvement (PRI) is a collaborative program between Washington State University and participating community colleges within Washington State.
PRI was established in 1976 with support from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. Since 1982, PRI has been funded by Washington State University Cooperative Extension and participating community colleges. These colleges include Spokane Community College, Skagit Valley College, Walla Walla Community College and Grays Harbor College.
Grays Harbor College (GHC) became a PRI partner in 1993. GHC's goal in PRI is to act as a catalyst for maintaining the rural character and strong community values of Grays Harbor and Pacific Counties while supporting community improvement, furthing education and improving the well-being of area residents.
With the vast inlets of Willapa Bay and Grays Harbor, the two-county coastal area has come to be know as Washington's Twin-Harbor. The Twin-Harbor economy is essentially farming and natural resources based. PRI's focus and objectives are centered around:
Improving the agricultural and small business economies of the counties,
Assisting farmers, small businesses and county residents in their life-long pursuit of education, and
Promoting and maintaining the area's extraordinary resources and opportunities for a pleasant, productive life.
