Koi
Aquaculture&Renewable Power (KARP)
The KARP Project (KoiAquaculture&Renewable Power) intends to supplement the existing learning environment already established with the model watershed and our salmon hatchery by including two new features:
In addition to those enhancements, KARP intends to introduce a new kiosk addition, with paved access to the future greenhouse. Interpretive signs will be placed along the walkway highlighting local ecology, conservation efforts, and alternative energy sources. Each aspect of our renewable energy systems will be visible, as well as described.
Benefits of the KARP Project
Students at Grays Harbor College gain valuable experience working in a business-type
project structure, developing team-building skills and participating in campus
enhancement as a result of this service-learning project. The community
and local schools gain a model project, illustrating how alternative energy
can successfully operate a business venture, and are presented with innovative
ways to protect the environment and conserve resources. This project will also
be promoted as a teaching aid, through tours for school groups and community
organizations.

Acknowledgements
The KARP Project would like to acknowledge the dedicated efforts of all past
students, both work-study and volunteers, who have been affiliated with this
project. We recognize that the foundation they created is the main reason that
current members are presently finding success in our activities. KARP would
also like to thank all current and past partners, who have donated their time
and resources to see this project move forward. We hope they will take pride
in the accomplishments that we see in the near future.
