Community Involvement
Model Watershed Partnerships
GHC and local school students can monitor and assess water quality, participate
in wetland restoration projects, and learn more about the importance of watersheds
through their on-going studies. Partnerships with college faculty, area schools,
industry, and local organizations create learning opportunities. Faculty use
the Alder Creek, Lake Swano, and hatchery for water quality and salmon habitat
study. The trails provide a hands-on showcase for faculty to teach about geology,
botany, and biology, as well as a recreational walking area for physical education
students.
Achieving our goal
As part of our structure, KARP operates as a “business”, with tasks spread over
a number of different departments. Each department is comprised of work-study
students and volunteers, and a management team of advisors and lead personnel
provide project oversight. Communications (Presentations, grant writing, publicity)
Administration (Payroll, budget, project management) Construction (Permitting,
architectural drawings) Koi and Site Design (Design of breeding methods and
facility) Renewable Power (Acquisition of renewable power devices).
