We will begin the course by examining the Bubonic Plague which is discussed in Chapter 11. 

This is the only disease described in Chapter 11 that you are responsible for at this time.

7. What is Rattus rattus?   Why was it so named?  What was its role in the story of the bubonic plague?  What is the correct way to write this name?

8. What is a reservoir?  Give 3 examples.

9. Contrast the meanings of the terms endemic, epidemic, and pandemic.  Give an example of each.

10. What are the common symptoms of the bubonic plague?

11. Describe the several different forms of the plague described by your author.

12. What are the modes of transmission of bubonic plague?

13. What is the treatment for bubonic plague?  How successful is the treatment.

14. Is bubonic plague still with us?  Give examples.

15. Describe the connection between the nursery rhyme "Ring Around the Rosy" and bubonic plague.
