GHC Student Handbook

Let's Get Involved

Student Government
The purpose of Student Government (ASGHC) is to represent the needs of the students to faculty and administration. Student Government also has an active role in campus activities including support of clubs, athletics, and campus wide special events. Council members serve on most Grays Harbor College committees including: Tenure Review committees, the President’s Cabinet, the Student Technology Advisory Committee, and the Student Review Committee. Elections to the Student Council are held in fall and spring quarters. Interested students should contact the Coordinator of Student Programs or the ASGHC office (Room 172 ext. 4087) in the Hillier Union Building (HUB) for information on how to get involved. All students are encouraged to come to the ASGHC weekly meetings in the ASGHC Conference Room also located in the HUB. Watch the weekly calendar for further details.

Student Clubs and Organizations
Representatives of all chartered campus organizations comprise the Associated Student Club Coordinating Council (CCC), chaired by the ASGHC Vice President. The primary function of the CCC is to promote student unity and to help organize various student activities, including program planning, coordination, and charter review. Students can learn how to start a new club from the Coordinator of Student Programs in Room 171.

Drama
During the school year, at least three major productions are presented by the Grays Harbor College Players. The performances may include a modern play, a classical play, a musical, and/or a children’s play. Theater may be taken with or without credit. Theater is planned to give students who are interested in dramatics as a hobby or as part of a theater or education major an opportunity to perform as much as possible. Rehearsals are arranged to meet the needs of the cast. Production staffs give students who prefer not to act an opportunity to manage different parts of the performances.

Music
Grays Harbor College offers a number of excellent performance groups from the music department. College Chorale, Jazz Vocal Ensemble, and Jazz Band rehearse during the regular daytime schedule and are open to all students with choral and/or instrumental experience. These groups present one concert per quarter on campus.

Athletics
Grays Harbor College is a member of the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC) and our teams compete throughout Washington and Oregon. Intercollegiate sports programs offered at GHC include basketball, golf, and baseball for men; volleyball, basketball, softball, and golf for women. “Chokers” has been adopted as the official mascot of our athletic teams. For more information regarding scholarships, tryouts, or schedules, contact the athletic director or the coach of the sport.
