Welcome to Grays Harbor College!
This is a great year to be at GHC! When the doors at the original Grays Harbor College first opened back in 1930, students sat in orderly rows of desks, with instructors lecturing in front of blackboards and tuition frequently paid by chopping wood or bringing in chickens from the family farm. Three-quarters of a century ago, who could have envisioned learning situations of today, with students enrolled in online courses who rarely come to campus and instructors who use interactive TV connections to deliver information throughout our two-county district.
One aspect has stayed the same over the years. That is our commitment to provide you with top-quality learning opportunities, led by our outstanding and caring faculty. Compared with most four-year colleges and universities, class sizes at GHC remain small and comfortable, so your questions and concerns can be conveyed directly to your instructor. You will also encounter staff members who are here to help you – do not hesitate to ask any of us when you need assistance. Strong, loyal and generous support from the community we serve is another factor that has not changed over the years.
Your success is important to each of us. I encourage you to develop new friendships, experience new activities, cheer on our Choker athletic teams and enjoy an event at the beautiful Bishop Center. Soon, I know you will agree that enrolling at Grays Harbor College is one of the best decisions you have ever made!
Best wishes to you for a rewarding year!
Sincerely,
Edward J. Brewster
